SVG to DXF

Convert supported SVG shapes and paths to DXF outlines privately. Set an explicit coordinate scale and curve sampling, then inspect a preview parsed from the actual generated DXF.

Plain UTF-8 SVG up to 1 MiB / 5,000 elements. Source SVG is read as inert XML; it is never displayed or executed.

DXF settings

Explicit scale, applied to geometry. Example: enter 0.2645833333 to interpret one user unit as one CSS pixel in millimetres at 96 px/in. Physical SVG width/height and viewport/viewBox mapping are not inferred.

Sets the DXF unit header only; changing this label does not rescale coordinates.

Fixed parameter sampling, not a geometric error tolerance. More segments increase smoothness and file size.

SVG Y is flipped to CAD Y-up to preserve its visual orientation. Exported bounds describe supported sampled geometry, not stroke thickness.

Output is AC1015 ASCII DXF: outlines as LWPOLYLINE on layer 0. No fills, stroke expansion, color, font rendering, clipping or cutter compensation. Verify the output in CAD software before using it for fabrication.

Converted DXF preview

The converted geometry will appear here.

No DXF generated.

This preview parses the actual exported DXF with our CAD engine. It shows only converted outlines; it is not the original SVG appearance.

Conversion report

Supported: line, polyline, polygon, unrounded rect, circle, ellipse, and paths using M/L/H/V/C/S/Q/T/Z, including relative coordinates and group transforms. Béziers and ellipses become sampled polylines. A/a arc commands skip the entire affected path. Unsupported text, images, use/symbol references, nested SVG viewports, clipping, masks, filters, rounded rectangles, animation and foreign content are skipped with reports. Stylesheets/DTDs reject the input. Only numeric user-unit geometry lengths are supported; percentages and physical suffixes skip affected elements. SVG fills, styling, line weights, fill rules and viewport scaling are not reproduced.

    A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use SVG to DXF

    1. Choose a plain UTF-8 SVG or load the example. SVG input is parsed as inert XML and is never displayed or executed.
    2. Set DXF units per SVG user unit, the unit label, curve sampling and optional origin shift. Read the outline-only scope notes.
    3. Inspect the converted DXF preview, output bounds and skipped-element report. Download the DXF and report, then verify dimensions in CAD software.

    Why use this tool?

Your SVG is never uploaded to any server; all XML parsing, geometric conversion and DXF verification happen locally in your browser. The preview is drawn from the actual DXF output, and unsupported content is reported.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

    A few things worth knowing

    Which SVG paths are supported?

M/L/H/V/C/S/Q/T/Z, including relative commands, are supported. Bézier curves and circles/ellipses become sampled polylines. A/a arc commands skip the entire affected path. Lines, polylines, polygons and unrounded rectangles are supported too.

Is the SVG appearance preserved exactly?

No. This converts geometric outlines, not fills or rendered strokes. Text, images, clipping, masks, filters, use/symbol references, nested SVG viewports and rounded rectangles are skipped. Stylesheet-based SVG rejects the input. The conversion report explains detected omissions.

How do I control physical size?

Choose an explicit number of DXF units per SVG user unit. SVG viewBox/viewport scaling and physical width/height are not inferred. The DXF unit label only sets the unit header; it does not rescale coordinates. Check the resulting bounds and verify sizes in CAD software.

Is the output ready for laser cutting or manufacturing?

Treat it as an intermediate outline drawing. Sampling is not a geometric error tolerance, and this tool does not detect duplicate cuts, join gaps, expand strokes or apply cutter compensation. Verify all dimensions, geometry and machine requirements in appropriate CAD/CAM software.
