Data Rate Converter

Convert internet and transfer rates between bit/s, Mbps, Gbps, MB/s and binary KiB/s or MiB/s. Clearly distinguish bits, bytes and decimal or binary prefixes.

Clear units. Explicit assumptions. Local conversion · no uploads
Decimal/scientific notation. Up to 120 digits; exponent −500 to 500. Use a dot, without commas or unit names.
Display rounding only. Exact values remain available where the definitions are exact.

Lowercase bit means bits; uppercase B means bytes. One byte is 8 bits. Decimal Mbit/s (Mbps) uses 1,000,000 bits/s; binary Mibit/s uses 1,048,576 bits/s. Swapping changes the units while keeping your entered number.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Data Rate Converter

  1. Enter a nonnegative data rate, using a decimal dot or scientific notation without a unit in the input.
  2. Choose the source and target units. Mbit/s is Mbps; MB/s means megabytes per second. Binary prefixes are grouped separately.
  3. Adjust significant digits with the slider or exact input. Review the exact target, formula and equivalent rates. Swap units keeps your entered number.
  4. Copy the result or download a TXT report. Clear removes the entered value and result.

Why use this tool?

Your rates are never uploaded. All conversion runs locally in your browser using exact integer fractions before display rounding. No account, remote API, speed-test traffic or saved input history is needed.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

How do I convert Mbps to MB/s?

Divide by 8: 100 Mbps (100 Mbit/s) is exactly 12.5 MB/s. Both use decimal prefixes. Uppercase B means bytes; bit and the common abbreviation b mean bits.

What is the difference between MB/s and MiB/s?

MB/s uses 1,000,000 bytes per second. MiB/s uses 1,048,576 bytes per second. This converter keeps decimal and binary units separate and includes prefixes through exa and exbi.

Does this measure my connection or predict download speed?

No. It only converts the rate you enter. Actual file transfers can be slower because of protocol overhead, other traffic, server limits and fluctuating throughput. No network speed test is performed.

Are results exact?

One byte is exactly 8 bits. Decimal prefixes use powers of 1000 and binary prefixes use powers of 1024. Arithmetic uses exact fractions; the main display is rounded to your chosen 2–12 significant digits and marked ≈ when rounded. Exact target values are also shown.

What inputs are supported?

Nonnegative decimals and scientific notation, up to 120 digits, 180 characters and exponents from −500 to 500. Zero and fractional rates are valid. Negative values, commas and unit names in the numeric input are rejected.

Are my inputs saved or sent anywhere?

No. Your inputs stay in this browser page and are not persisted. Only the website theme preference is saved. Copy and report download happen only when you choose.
