Choose pages with thumbnails or ascending ranges. Blank means all pages. Unselected pages stay in the output.
Continuous counts selected pages in source order. Original positions uses starting number + original page position − 1.
Roman numbering ignores padding and must end at 3,999 or below.
Include {n}. Supported tokens: {n} printed number; {total} final numbering value; {page} original page; {pages} document page count. Use supported Latin text.
“Total” is the final numbering value. For three selected pages starting at 5, the labels are 5 of 7, 6 of 7 and 7 of 7.

Labels are added above existing content. Existing page numbers are not removed and content is not shifted to create a margin. Review for overlap. PDF navigation page labels are unchanged.
DRAFT LABELS · ACTUAL RESULT
The working preview uses approximate browser fonts. Generate the PDF to inspect actual embedded fonts and placement. Positions follow the visible crop and page rotation; labels and margins fit small pages.

Ready for a document.
Working previews show planned page operations. Generated-result mode renders the actual exported PDF, image, or selected ZIP part. Preview resolution is reduced for speed; download quality is unchanged. Links, scripts and attachments are not opened.
Ready. Choose a PDF.
Each export starts from the original document. This adds visible text without rasterizing pages. Encrypted PDFs, interactive forms and signature fields are unsupported. Document-level metadata, bookmarks, attachments and signatures are not preserved as a new document; page annotations may be copied.
A FEW SIMPLE STEPS
How to use PDF Page Numbering
Choose an unencrypted PDF up to 50 MiB and 500 pages. Check its selected filename, size and page previews.
Choose pages with thumbnail checkboxes or ranges. Skip first page excludes the cover; other pages stay in the output.
Choose continuous or original-position numbering, a starting number, style, label format and header/footer position. Adjust font size, margin and opacity with sliders or exact inputs.
Review draft labels, click Add page numbers, then inspect the actual generated PDF and download. Changes discard the old result.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Why use this tool?
Your document and custom labels are never uploaded to a server. A self-hosted PDF library adds visible page numbers locally in a cancellable browser worker. No accounts, remote processing or saved PDF history are required.
Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.
A few things worth knowing
How are skipped pages and starting numbers handled?
Continuous mode numbers only selected pages in source order. Original-position mode adds the starting number minus one to each original page number, leaving gaps for skipped pages. All original pages remain in the output. Existing printed page numbers are not removed.
What does the total token mean?
{total} is the final value in the chosen numbering sequence, formatted with the selected number style. Three selected pages starting at 5 produce 5 of 7, 6 of 7 and 7 of 7. {page} is the original one-based page position and {pages} is the full document page count; both remain decimal.
Can I use Roman numbers or custom labels?
Yes. Choose uppercase or lowercase Roman numerals, or decimal numbers with optional zero padding. Roman sequences must end at 3,999 or below. Custom labels must contain {n} and can also include {total}, {page} and {pages}. Built-in fonts support Latin text; emoji and most non-Latin scripts are unsupported.
Will numbers fit cropped or rotated pages?
Placement follows the visible crop and displayed page rotation. Long labels shrink to fit; margins shrink on very small pages. Working mode uses approximate browser fonts, while Generated result renders the actual PDF. Content is not moved to create a blank footer or header, so check for overlap.
What limits and PDF features are supported?
One unencrypted PDF up to 50 MiB and 500 pages, with output up to 100 MiB and a 30-second processing limit. Interactive forms and signature fields are unsupported. Document-level metadata, bookmarks, attachments and signatures are not preserved as a new document; page annotations may be copied. Visible numbers do not change the PDF navigation page labels.
