YOUR CLEANED TEXT

Ready. Choose your cleanup options.

Tabs and indentation can matter in code. The result is plain text, and your original remains available for comparison.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Whitespace Cleaner

  1. Paste your text and review the cleanup controls, especially if indentation matters.
  2. Choose line-edge trimming, space/tab collapsing, non-breaking space replacement and blank-line handling.
  3. Select Clean whitespace and compare the result with your original. Defaults trim line endings and extra blank lines without collapsing interior spaces or leading indentation.
  4. Copy or download the cleaned text as TXT. Editing the input or options clears the previous result.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Why use this tool?

Your text is cleaned on your device with no uploads, account, dependencies or browser storage. The original stays available while you inspect the result, and cleanup changes only the whitespace covered by your chosen controls.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

What do the default options change?

Defaults remove ASCII spaces and tabs at line ends, reduce consecutive blank lines to one, and remove blank lines at the start and end of the text. Leading indentation and interior spaces/tabs remain unchanged unless their options are enabled.

How are tabs and repeated spaces handled?

The collapse option replaces each run of ASCII spaces and tabs with one regular space, including a single tab. Leading and trailing trim controls affect only ASCII spaces and tabs. If indentation matters, leave the leading-trim and collapse options off and review the result.

Which non-breaking spaces are replaced?

The optional replacement converts U+00A0 non-breaking space and U+202F narrow non-breaking space to regular ASCII spaces before the other cleanup steps. It does not remove zero-width characters, joiners or other invisible formatting marks.

How are blank lines defined?

A blank line contains no non-whitespace characters, using JavaScript Unicode whitespace rules. It can include spaces, tabs or non-breaking spaces. Keep preserves blank lines, collapse keeps the first of each consecutive run, and remove drops all blank lines. Removing outer blank lines is a separate control.

Are line breaks and final newlines preserved?

CRLF and CR endings normalize to LF. Default outer-blank cleanup removes final newlines. To preserve line-break structure, choose Keep all blank lines and turn off Remove blank lines at the start and end. Unicode line/paragraph separator characters are not treated as LF delimiters, though a wholly whitespace line can still be removed by blank-line controls.

What do the totals and limits mean?

Line-break totals count LF separators. Whitespace removed compares Unicode whitespace character counts after line-ending normalization, not visible glyphs or bytes. Replacing a non-breaking space alone does not reduce that total. Input is limited to 200,000 UTF-16 text units and is never truncated; an empty result has no download.
