Image Converter

Convert static PNG, JPEG and WebP images locally while keeping their pixel dimensions. Choose transparency settings, preview the output and download the correct format. AVIF export appears only when supported natively.

A new format. The same dimensions. Local conversion · no uploads

Static PNG, JPEG or WebP input · up to 20 MiB and 40 megapixels

Checking native AVIF export support. PNG, JPEG and WebP exports are checked when generated.
Applies to JPEG, WebP and supported AVIF export. The browser chooses encoding details; PNG ignores quality.
JPEG does not keep transparency. White is selected by default.

Conversion does not resize or crop. Output: up to 8,192 pixels per side and 16 megapixels. For larger images, resize first. Choosing the source format re-encodes it.

PNG and WebP keep transparency where supported. Inspect native AVIF output if available. Canvas export creates a new raster image; original metadata, color-profile behavior and encoded bytes are not preserved or guaranteed. Converting to PNG does not restore detail lost in a JPEG.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Image Converter

  1. Choose or drop one static PNG, JPEG or WebP image. The original format and oriented dimensions appear locally.
  2. Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP output. AVIF is selectable only when a native browser export check succeeds.
  3. Set lossy quality if available. For JPEG, choose the background color that replaces transparent pixels.
  4. Select Convert image, review the preview and reported format, then download. The output keeps the original pixel dimensions.

Why use this tool?

Your image is never uploaded to any server; decoding and format conversion happen locally in your browser. No account or image history is needed. The actual exported MIME type is checked before enabling download, preventing unsupported encoders from silently producing a mislabeled PNG.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

A few things worth knowing

Which input and output formats are supported?

Inputs are static PNG, JPEG and WebP. Outputs are PNG, JPEG and WebP when the browser can encode them, plus AVIF only when a small native export probe succeeds. Actual exported MIME type is checked again for every conversion. AVIF input, SVG, GIF, HEIC and detected animated PNG/WebP are not supported by this tool.

Why is AVIF disabled on my browser?

AVIF decoding and AVIF canvas export are different capabilities. A tiny generated canvas is tested locally for image/avif export. If it returns PNG, fails or does not respond within two seconds, AVIF stays disabled. No library or model is downloaded, and no user image is used in the probe. Availability does not guarantee every image can be encoded.

Does conversion change image dimensions?

No. The browser-oriented original width and height are retained, with no crop or scaling. Output is limited to 8,192 pixels per side and 16 megapixels. Larger images need Image Resizer first. Inputs can be up to 20 MiB, 40 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side; the browser may impose lower memory limits.

How are transparency and quality handled?

PNG and WebP retain transparency where supported. JPEG fills transparent areas with the chosen background color, white by default. Inspect native AVIF output if available, as encoding details depend on the browser. Quality applies to lossy formats and is not a guaranteed file-size scale. PNG encodes the decoded raster losslessly and ignores the quality slider; it cannot restore detail already lost in a JPEG.

What if I select the same format as the original?

The image is decoded and re-encoded in that format, rather than copied unchanged. The result can have a different file size, quality and metadata even when dimensions match. The status message labels this as re-encoding. Use Image Compressor for explicit file-size comparisons and optional dimension limits.

Are metadata and pending results preserved?

Canvas creates a new raster image. Original metadata, encoded bytes and exact color-profile behavior are not preserved or guaranteed, and the browser handles image orientation. Edits and new files clear old downloads and discard late results. Encoding has a 15-second response limit. Clear and leaving the page release application-held images, canvases and local object URLs.
