Inputs & controls

No file selected.

UTF-8 only, up to 512 KiB / 200,000 characters. Select input format, delimiter, column and header handling explicitly. Import does not calculate automatically.

Display precision does not round inputs or exact calculations. Exact result strings and generated reports retain their stated precision.

Enter values or load the example to begin.

Supported calculations & limits

Up to 20,000 unweighted observations. Decimal dot only; list commas, whitespace and semicolons separate numbers. CSV settings select one column; nonnumeric cells reject rather than being silently discarded. Quartiles use linear interpolation at (n−1)p (type 7). Statistics use approximate floating-point arithmetic; variance underflow requires rescaling. Sample variance is undefined with fewer than two values.

Calculation worker deadline: 10 seconds. Results are invalidated on input or setting changes. Reports are limited to 4 MiB. No values are persisted or sent to a server.

    A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Standard Deviation & Variance

    1. Enter values or load the example. Statistics tools can optionally import a local UTF-8 data file; select CSV settings explicitly.
    2. Choose the operation and review its supported scope, exact/approximate arithmetic and assumptions.
    3. Calculate locally. Review the result, supporting rows, distribution where relevant and any undefined or exceptional cases.
    4. Copy the report or download TXT/JSON. Editing inputs invalidates prior results; original files remain unchanged.
    PRIVATE BY DESIGN

    Why use this tool?

Your numbers, expressions, matrices and optional data files stay on your device. Calculations run in a bounded local worker using self-hosted code, without uploads, accounts or application input history.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

    A few things worth knowing

    What calculations are supported?

Up to 20,000 unweighted observations. Decimal dot only; list commas, whitespace and semicolons separate numbers. CSV settings select one column; nonnumeric cells reject rather than being silently discarded. Quartiles use linear interpolation at (n−1)p (type 7). Statistics use approximate floating-point arithmetic; variance underflow requires rescaling. Sample variance is undefined with fewer than two values.

    Are results exact?

Integer, fraction, combinatorial and supported rational algebra operations use exact BigInt rational arithmetic, within explicit resource limits. Scientific functions, descriptive statistics and labeled irrational-root approximations use finite IEEE-754 numbers. Display precision never changes exact inputs, rational decisions or stored data.

What happens with invalid or undefined input?

Invalid input, incompatible dimensions, division by zero, unsupported domains or resource limits produce a clear message and clear prior outputs. Undefined sample variance with one observation is labeled explicitly. Reports are available only after a successful complete calculation.

Are data files uploaded or saved?

No. Optional Statistics file selection reads UTF-8 locally and shows filename, size and loading/ready/error status. Failed imports preserve previous working text. Manual replacement, sample and clear remove obsolete file selections. Downloads and clipboard copies exist outside the application only when you request them.
