Convert triangle meshes. Review the actual output.Local conversion · no uploads

No file selected.

Supported triangle geometry from STL, OBJ, PLY, static GLB/glTF 2.0, plain OFF, 3DS and legacy VTK POLYDATA. Select local BIN companions with glTF. Maximum 20 MiB per file, 40 MiB total, 100,000 triangles and 20 MiB output. Point clouds, lines and mixed primitive models are rejected. WebGL 2 is required for previews and download readiness.

Vertex layout

Applies only to OBJ, PLY and OFF. Sharing can connect formerly separate surfaces that touch at the same coordinates. Uncheck to emit separate vertices for every triangle. No tolerance welding is performed.

Geometry only: triangle order and winding are retained, but materials, colors, UVs, hierarchy, original normals and original indexing are not. Binary STL uses float32 coordinates; STL normals are recalculated. ASCII files preserve the parsed numeric values. No unit conversion or mesh repair is performed.

    Conversion details

The previews can be orbited and zoomed independently. Use their Full screen buttons for a larger view. Both previews are fitted independently for display; the output retains original coordinate placement. These exports carry no physical unit declaration. glTF source coordinates use metres; no physical conversion is inferred. The converted preview is rebuilt from the generated file bytes. Source parsers and OBJ/OFF preview loaders may round positions to float32; this PLY export uses double coordinate properties. The report separates serialization changes from preview-only rounding. Neither conversion nor a successful preview certifies printability.

    A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

How to use 3D Mesh Converter

    1. Choose one supported triangle model or load the example. Select local BIN companions together with a glTF file.
    2. Review source filenames, sizes, parser notes and the source preview. Choose binary/ASCII STL, OBJ, ASCII PLY or OFF.
    3. For OBJ, PLY or OFF, choose whether exactly matching parsed positions share vertex indices. Convert to create and read back the actual output file.
    4. Review output dimensions, file size and serialization versus preview-only rounding. Download the generated model and conversion report.

    Why use this tool?

Your models stay on your device. All parsing, serialization and preview rendering run locally in your browser using self-hosted code. Files are not uploaded and no account or saved source-file history is required.

Tool inputs stay in your browser. Only your theme preference is saved on this device.

    A few things worth knowing

Which input and output formats are supported?

Supported triangle geometry from STL, OBJ, PLY, uncompressed static GLB/glTF 2.0, plain OFF, 3DS and legacy VTK POLYDATA can be exported as binary STL, ASCII STL, geometry-only OBJ, ASCII PLY or plain OFF. Existing viewer parser restrictions apply. Select local BIN companions with glTF. Point clouds, lines and mixed primitive models are rejected. This does not support every variant of those formats or all 3D file types.

Does conversion preserve materials or animation?

No. Output preserves static triangle positions, triangle order and face winding, flattened into one mesh. Materials, textures, UVs, colors, hierarchy, original indexing, solid grouping, headers and original normals are not preserved. STL normals are recalculated. Unsupported source features and triangulation approximations remain subject to the parser notes.

What does sharing identical vertices do?

OBJ, PLY and OFF use indexed vertices. When sharing is enabled, positions that are exactly equal after source parsing use one index. This can connect formerly separate touching surfaces, so it is not a topology-preserving guarantee. Uncheck to write separate vertices for each triangle. No tolerance welding or repair is performed. STL stores triangles without a shared vertex table.

    Can numbers or units change?

Binary STL rounds vertex coordinates to float32. ASCII files preserve parsed JavaScript Number values, but source parsers may already reduce precision. OBJ/OFF preview loaders additionally use float32 positions; preview-only differences are reported separately from serialized-file changes. PLY exports use double coordinate properties. No physical unit conversion is performed. glTF source coordinates use metres; these output files do not carry a physical unit declaration.

What limits apply, and is the output verified?

20 MiB per file, 40 MiB total, 100,000 triangles, 20 MiB output, bounded workers and previews. Coordinates must be finite and within ±1e12. Generated files are parsed again and geometry checked before the actual output preview and downloads become ready. WebGL 2 is required. This is not mesh repair or printability certification.
